Some Common FAQs About The Online Test and Tag Course

To undertake the course you will need access to:

  • A computer / laptop
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A copy of AS/NZS 3760 *

To practice the hands-on aspects of the online test and tag training, you will need;

  • An insulation / continuity meter or
  • An automated PAT
  • Class 1, Class 2 appliances, an extension lead and a powerboard

*  This is an important document and will be referenced many times during the course. If you do not have access to a copy you can purchase one from Sai Global or Standards New Zealand (the NZ site is usually cheaper) or try a google search for other possible download sites. We strongly recommend you obtain your own copy as it is very likely you will need to refer to it from time to time after you have completed the course.

The standard AS/NZS 3760 is your key reference document for all your testing and tagging. It contains all the procedures and protocols you must adhere to whenever you test and tag an appliance.

Some training centres provide their students with a small handful of “cherry picked” extracts but this means they will be left with significant gaps in their knowledge requirements and therefore would not meet one of the requirements of being a competent person – to have an understanding of the application and requirements of the Standard.

With this in mind and various clauses within this standard are referred to throughout this course, students need to obtain their own copy or have access to one.

As this standard is a copy write protected document we are unable to supply free copies to students.

If you do not have access to a copy you can purchase one from Sai Global or Standards New Zealand (the NZ site is usually cheaper) or try a google search for other possible download sites.

The online courses do not have a start date. As soon as your registration is completed you will be issued with a unique user name, a password and a link to where you log-in and begin your course.

All content is presented online and you go at your own pace – You can log-in and do some today, come back tomorrow to do a bit, return again next week and so on until you have completed all the lessons.

The content is the same as our short courses. The only difference is you do it all online.

At the end of Part 2 there is an online assessment you must complete.  On successful completion you will receive an interim certificate as evidence of completing the course.

You then book a 30 minute video session with your tutor. This session is included free of charge as part of your course. This session includes;

  1. A formal assessment covering your practical skills; you demonstrate how you would inspect and test a number of appliances. On successful completion of this assessment you will receive a formal Certificate of Completion.
  2. Opportunity to ask questions you might still have.

Full details of how to book this session and explaining the process will be provided when you finish all of Part 2.

No. There are a number of reasons we decided not to provide the Nationally Accredited (NA) course;

  1. There is no mandatory requirement to undertake a Nationally Accredited course. To do testing and tagging you must be a competent person. This is recognised in nearly all States / Territories, industries and workplaces. (more info)
  2. The current Nationally Accredited course only covers the minimum knowledge and skill sets. For most students this leaves them with big gaps in their skills once they leave the comfort of the classroom and enter the real world.
  3. Not being constrained by the strict content limitations of the Nationally Accredited course we have been able to write a course that covers everything in the Nationally Accredited course and more.
  4. We see no value for students to have them pay an extra $150 – $200 to do the Nationally Accredited course that delivers less content than our non-accredited course.
